Compliance Engineer

 

Elemental Machines is looking for a full time Compliance Engineer to join our devices team in the development of industry leading IoT devices and sensors.  In this role you will understand all of the compliance schemes and the process required to specify, test, qualify, document and maintain certifications of IoT devices as it pertains to Product Safety, EMC, and wireless compliance for domestic and international markets .  The compliance engineer works closely with Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Quality to ensure that our products are in compliance with relevant global standards.



Responsibilities:

  • Work with our engineering teams to ensure new products meet worldwide environmental, safety, and EMC certifications.
  • Work with certifying agencies and organizations to ensure new and existing designs comply with local, regional and national regulations
  • Ensure that written product requirement documents contain all required regulatory features. You'll evaluate product designs and provide input to align the product design with safety, EMC, and wireless compliance at an early stage of development.
  • Identify applicable regulatory compliance requirements for new products, create plans to obtain certifications, and coordinate regulatory certifications for new products in target countries.
  • Participate in the design review process and provide direction to development teams on product regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure existing products continue to meet evolving and applicable worldwide standards.
  • Recommend solutions to resolve compliance issues and develop feedback mechanisms for future product design efforts.
  • Work with 3rd party test labs in arrangements, preparing product documents and support in performing the testing; compile and maintain internal reports and lab reports.

 

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in product safety design, test, and agency certifications, preferably previous experience working with multiple global and country-specific certification bodies.
  • BS (preferably in Electrical or Computer Engineering)
  • Experience coordinating regulatory compliance testing with certification agencies and outside test facilities
  • Knowledge of and experience certifying industrial equipment to EMC standards (FCC, Industry Canada, EN 61000 series)
  • Knowledge of and experience verifying compliance of industrial equipment to EU directives and the CE and UKCA marking scheme
  • Experience supporting certification efforts including identifying equipment, documentation, and support equipment needs, staging of Equipment Under Test (EUT), monitoring of EUT, and initial debug of any non-conformance
  • Exposure to performing risk assessments
  • Outstanding organizational, communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to execute tasks with limited direction and supervision
